Powered by Adobe Sensei, the new Object Selection tool simplifies the process selecting a single object, multiple objects, or parts of an object in an image—people, cars, furniture, pets, clothes, and more.
Simply draw a rectangular region or lasso around the object and the Object Selection tool will automatically select the object inside the defined region, speeding up even the most complex selections.

In the Properties panel, you easily discover even more controls for Document, Pixel Layer, and Type Layer properties without navigating through multiple panels and dialogs. The properties are shown contextually for the selected content. New Quick Actions will also accelerate your common tasks. With enhancements made to the Warp tool, you get more control over creative warping in Photoshop. Simply add control points anywhere or divide your image with a customizable grid, then transform by individual nodes or a larger selection. With the Warp tool, you can now:

If you have complex paths in your artwork and you find it difficult to edit them, use the Path Simplify feature to make your path editing easier. This feature now has an enriched and intuitive user interface.
When you use this feature (Object > Path > Simplify), a dialog is displayed with essential options for simplifying a path. To view advanced options, click the More Options icon to open the Simplify dialog. With this dialog, you can simplify curves, adjust the corner point angle for smoothness, and convert curved paths into straight lines.

Checking spellings is now easy with the Auto Spell-Check feature. If you're designing a book, brochure, resume, poster, or any other artwork that includes text, then do not worry about spelling errors as Illustrator will automatically highlight them as you type the text.
Note: Illustrator supports spell-check in over 50 languages and dialects. It is currently not supported for East Asian languages.

Your Illustrator files are now saved and exported in the background. You no longer need to wait for the save and export processes to complete, you can continue working on your artwork. Illustrator will inform you when these processes are complete. If required, you can also check the progress by clicking the Check Progress button.
Note: Only .ai, .png, and .jpg files support background save and export.

All the new Adobe Illustrator (.ai) and Illustrator EPS (.eps) documents are now saved in the latest Illustrator 2020 format (version 24.0).
However, if you open the Illustrator 2020 document in an earlier version of Illustrator (2019 or before), a warning message is displayed. It indicates that this document is created using a newer version and you may lose some data on opening the document.
For a smooth experience, we recommend you to open the Illustrator 2020 documents in Illustrator 24.0.

You can now import and place the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format files in InDesign documents. SVG is an XML-based vector image format to provide support for interactivity. In the previous releases, SVGs from CC libraries were imported as PNG files in InDesign, but now they can be imported directly.

If you often design documents that contain multi-columns, the new column rule feature will let you add and control lines between columns in a multi-column text frame. Adding column rules helps you stylize the columns and add design elements. By default, the column rule is drawn from the ascent of the top line to the descent of the bottom line.

InDesign now includes a new text engine to support five new South East Asian languages: Thai, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, and Sinhala. Your documents can now include text composed in these scripts.

InDesign now supports Variable Font, a new Open Type font format supporting custom attributes such as weight, width, slant, optical size, etc. You can change these custom attributes using convenient slider controls available when you click variable font icon in the Control panel, Character panel, Character Styles panel, and Paragraph Styles panel.
Search for variable icon in the font list to look for variable fonts. Alternatively, look for the variable icon next to the font name.

If you've missed a spelling error while checking spellings manually, then you need not worry. You can now dictate the direction or order in which InDesign scans the text in your document for spelling errors.
Two new options, Backward and Forward are added in the Check spelling dialog. With these options, you can easily go back and correct the misspelled word.

Adobe Asset Link enables you to directly link to assets in AEM Assets from within your InDesign 2020 document. If the original asset is modified in AEM Assets, you can quickly refresh the link to ensure that your InDesign document includes the latest version of the asset.

You can now directly find graphic assets that are visually similar to the assets placed in your InDesign document. In previous versions, it was done only in the CC Libraries panel, but now you can search for similar assets on the canvas as well.

Adobe decides to stop updating and distributing the Flash Player. To follow this decision, InDesign removed the support for placing, importing, exporting, and linking Flash files, such as .FLV, .F4V, and .SWF.
The removal of Flash formats required some user-interface changes, where options related to Flash formats are removed.
